Carly Marchment
Artist Statement
Born in the Macleay Region in 1980, Marchment works in the medium of painting and mixed media working predominantly using oils and acrylic to create portraits and nudes on different surfaces from paper to canvas to timber. Her art captures moments in time, the connection of people and their environment and the mood this creates.
"I create art because I feel compelled to do so. I have been drawing and painting since I was very young. It has always been the way I express my feelings. It is my therapy, my escape."
Other artist's work, people and their environments that surround me are my motivation. I draw inspiration from my surroundings whether it be colour, imagery or emotion and incorporate these elements into my art making. The focus of my art is to sensitively communicate with people and for them to experience an emotional response and connection. I am dedicated to this entirely.
In 2019 Marchment opened her own Gallery/ Studio in the quaint creative village of Gladstone on the North Coast of NSW. She conducts popular Life Drawing Classes from this inspiring space weekly. The Gladstone Hub is quickly becoming a popular destination for the creative in all of us.
